Stop the Hallman Pit
Story
In an area protected by the Clean Water Act and adjacent to a rural settlement (Shingletown), an application was submitted for a new aggregate licence at 1824-1922 Witmer Road. This application was unanimously turned down by Wilmot council in April of 2022. The applicant appealed this decision to the Ontario Land Tribunal and CSGW defended council’s decision this November-December.
Now the Tribunal’s decision is in and we have reached a pivotal moment in our journey, one filled with mixed emotions. The Tribunal’s decision didn’t swing in our favor, but our resolve remains unshaken. Despite the setback, we stand proud of our tireless efforts and the unwavering support of our community.
The challenges we face regarding water, farmland, dust, noise, and traffic persist. The risks have not gone away and as such our fight continues. While this decision is disappointing, it is not the end of our journey. We are committed to ensuring our community’s voice is heard.
